Built by a parent who got tired of answering "What's for dinner?" every single day.
I'm Jake, the developer behind Kitchen Companion. Creation is fundamental to who I am. With over a decade of software engineering experience, I've learned that the best software solves real problems people face every day — and that the most impactful solutions are often the simplest ones.
Software development offers a unique advantage: significant life impact potential with low iteration costs. You can test an idea, refine it, and ship something meaningful — all without the constraints of physical manufacturing or massive teams.
My approach to building products starts with understanding root causes. Rather than building surface-level fixes, I ask why a situation feels frustrating or problematic. The goal is always a meaningful solution, not a temporary workaround.
Before Kitchen Companion, one of my most notable projects involved developing a motion-controlled flying drone — integrating a wristband from a hardware startup with an Android device, which then communicated with a 3DRobotics drone via Bluetooth. That project taught me the value of bridging complex systems into something intuitive for the end user.
The vision is simple: simplify meal planning while keeping it accessible, affordable, and enjoyable. Kitchen Companion won't sell your data and will always prioritize user respect alongside usefulness.
Meal planning shouldn't require a spreadsheet, three browser tabs, and a group text. It should feel natural — like flipping through a cookbook that already knows what you like, what's in season, and what your family will actually eat.
"In a world where technology often complicates more than it simplifies, Kitchen Companion is a breath of fresh air. It's here to lift the weight of meal planning from your shoulders, transforming mealtime back into a moment of relaxation and pleasure."
Kitchen Companion is built on a foundation of ethical practices. We link directly to original recipe creators, ensuring they receive the recognition and traffic they deserve. We don't scrape, copy, or store recipe content — we're a guide, not a warehouse.
Your data stays yours. We collect only what's needed to make the app work, and we're transparent about every piece of it. Read our Privacy Policy for the full details.
While there's potential to explore broader "life automation" areas in the future, Kitchen Companion will remain focused exclusively on what it does best: meal planning, grocery organization, and helping you reclaim your time.
Thank you for your support and feedback. This project is about enhancing quality of life through simplified daily routines — and I'm excited to build it with you.
Happy Cooking,
Jake
